These were the smallest Sport Saloons in the lineup, with drivetrain and chassis borrowed heavily from the legendary XKE.

8 S provided such a dynamic driving experience it came to be known as the 4-door E-Type.
It of course differed from the two seater in that it was a very well appointed and luxurious 5 passenger car and every bit a Jaguar with impeccable road manners, finest materials and iconic beauty.
The US versions were all equipped with a twin carb version of the XKE's 3.
8 liter double overhead cam straight six cylinder engine and its ground breaking independent rear suspension.
In an effort to provide balance the S Type features twin 8 gallon fuel tanks mounted in the fenders behind the rear wheels.
Rated at 220 horsepower this engine endowed the S Type with power enough to give the driver the ability to explore the capabilities of the chassis.
