Vehicle Description This 1996 Land Rover Defender 90 was imported from Italy in 2020 by an American Army officer who was stationed there.
He purchased it from a Lieutenant General in the Carabinieri, or Italian military police.
These were all painted dark blue and had official graphics applied across it as well as lights and a siren.
Those were removed and it became his daily driver for several years.
Retiring from the Army, he decided to bring it home to the USA.
The car was fully serviced and inspected by the Italian transportation authorities to make ready for export.
It cleared US Customs without issue.
This D90 now has a clean Texas title, British Heritage Certificate and all VINs match.
The Carabinieri ordered their Defenders with fuel injected twin cam 2.
0 liter four cylinder gasoline engines and 5-speed manual transmissions with full time all wheel drive and a 2-speed transfer case.
Having owned several Turbo Diesel Defenders I am very impressed with the performance of this gas powered version.
It starts up easy and idles perfectly.
The gear box shifts smoothly and the car has surprisingly good power and more top end than even the 2.
5 TDi, so it is actually more useable for street work than the diesel equipped trucks.
The truck cruises all day in the Texas summer heat with the temp gauge comfortably hanging in the lower half of the normal range.
Steering and brakes (front disc) are power assisted, the suspension and alignment are spot on.
Defenders of this era are super fun to drive, connecting driver to machine like few cars, much less trucks can.
I used to swear by those diesels but this truck is every bit as compelling, albeit without the smell or smoke This Defender is rust free and the paint shows well.
It has a few nicks and scrapes but nothing that is of major concern.
The interior is complete and tidy, again with only minor wear present.
Everything works including the heat/fresh air blower, lights and instrumentation.
The aftermarket stereo is wired to two speakers and sounds good.
Newer tires.
This Defender needs nothing and is good to go.
