Vehicle Description Coming Soon to Bring a Trailer, the Premier Online Auction Site for Car Enthusiasts Concerned that the price of the new 6 cylinder Porsche 911 would give their loyal following sticker shock the powers that be took the 1600cc flat four engine from the retired 356 and installed it in the 1965 911 chassis and called it the 912.
Good thing considering it wasn't until 1968 that the 911 finally outsold the 912.
The 1969 model year was the final one for the 912, and the only year a four cylinder would power the new longer wheelbase chassis.
The 912 was replaced by the 914 in 1970 and had a brief comeback in 1976 in the form of the fuel injected 912E.
This 1969 Porsche 912 slick top coupe was recommissioned some years ago by Desert Private Collection in Palm Springs, CA.
Well known for recognizing the market potential for the 912 they rescued and preserved many of them, maybe more than anyone else in North America.
Originally Bahama Yellow, this one was refinished in Grand Prix White and a striking red interior.
There are no rust concerns with this car.
The engine was rebuilt and this car has the four speed transmission.
It is not known whether the engine or transmission are original to this car though they are both correct for the year.
The paint was done to a high standard and the interior is tidy and presents very well.
This car has a few touches that give it a sporty look, namely the blacked out trim and badging and the Deep Six Fuchs replica 15 wheels.
Inside it has RS style door cards and the original dash is capped.
It starts up easy and runs well.
Brakes are strong and the suspension and steering firm.
Fresh Michelin tires were just mounted.
Lighter by more than 250 pounds the 912 has a different character than the 911.
It is a thoroughly analog driving experience that connects driver to road like few cars before or since.
This car is peppy under heavy foot and is a blast to row through the four forward gears; its a real driver's car that is very rewarding to operate.
Porsches are among the most reliable classic car investment an enthusiast can make.
The 912 has seen significant market appreciation in recent years with the best examples eclipsing six figure hammer prices at auction.
Still, they represent a great value for those who prefer the classic longhood styling.
This car is not a concourse level car.
It is a VERY nice driver quality example.
Buy it, drive it, take care of it and in the event you decide to sell it you will likely not lose money on it.
This Porsche is located in Rowlett, Texas and is offered as is where is.
Inspections welcomed and encouraged.
