Vehicle Description The base model Porsche 944 was introduced in 1982 and saw numerous changes up to its final year of 1990.
This 1989 model includes all of those refinements, not the least of which is the free revving 2.
7 liter normally aspirated engine.
The Turbos were the most powerful versions, but turbo lag required the driver to stay in the high revs to harness that power.
944 aficionados recognize the non turbo models as the more streetable edition that makes rowing through the 5-speed manual transmission a joy.
These cars are renowned for their balanced handling thanks to a perfect 50/50 weight distribution.
They are at the same time sporty and comfortable, and very well equipped despite its entry level status in the Porsche lineup.
A 944 is a sports car that can carve up the corners and at the same time will flat eat up the miles on the interstate like a grand touring car.
This 944 is completely original, and in 100% working order.
It has only minor flaws and sports all of its original sheet metal as supported by an accident free Carfax.
The original Guards Red paint still looks great and the black leather interior is very tidy.
Mechanically, the car runs flawlessly.
It accelerates, shifts, steers and stops as you would expect of a Porsche.
All of the lights and instrumentation is in working order and the AC blows cold.
944's are known for lots of little things that break or quit working, anyone familiar with what I am talking about will be thoroughly impressed with how well sorted and free of those nits this example is.
The cabin is rattle free and the rear hatch is free of common delamination and accompanying squeaks that plague many of these cars.
The power seats and mirrors operate properly.
The sunroof opens and closes without leaks or wind noise.
The visors stay in their position.
The Blaupunkt radio sounds good.
This car includes all books and manuals, three sets of keys, complete factory tool kit and air pump, original window sticker and lots of service records.
Link to additional pictures, videos and the VIN report is available upon request.
With recent service, fresh tires and brakes, this car is good to go.
Like all classic Porsches, the 944 has seen rapid appreciation over the last 4-5 years.
The days of finding a decent example for less than $10,000 are far behind us.
Good Turbo examples are pushing into the $30k's and $40k's; the best of the best are selling in the $70k's.
There are plenty of tired old 944's to choose from, but you would spend more than the asking price of this car trying to restore it.
Buy this car, take care of it, drive and enjoy it.
If you ever have to sell it you will likely not lose money on it.
